OFFICIAL: Milan Extend Gianluigi Donnarumma’s Contract
After all the mess, Gianluigi Donnarumma has finally signed a new contract.
Milan have announced 18-year-old goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has signed his a new 4-year contract to stay at the club until 2021. The San Siro club confirmed they had reached a deal with the prodigiously talented teenage keeper via Twitter on Tuesday evening.
“In the end, the club and the goalkeeper have reached an agreement to extend Gianluigi Donnarumma’s contract. Positive news for Milan who have worked hard to renew the keeper’s contract, for the player and the fans. Therefore, Gigio’s experience with the Rossoneri continues.
“Milan will be holding tight on one of the most talented players in the squad. Pure class and talent that will continue to defend Milan’s goal and ready to help in the race for the Champions League”, read a statement on their website.
Donnarumma had first turned down the offer of a new deal, claiming it was not due to financial reasons after fans threw fake money at him during a European Under-21 Championship game last month. However, it seems that he has had a change of heart and agreed to extend his previous deal, which was due to expire in 2018.
The deal is said to be worth €6 million per year, and includes a release clause in excess of €70 million, should Milan fail to qualify for the Champions League. The club is also set to announce the capture of Gianluigi’s elder brother, Antonio Donnarumma as part of the deal, making him the eight summer signing.
