Ibrahimovic Leaves Manchester United: Back To Milan?
Now that there is no United, could a Milan return be on the table for the Swede veteran?
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was officially released by Manchester United on Friday after his impressive first season with the Red Devils was curtailed by a serious knee injury. The decision was announced by the Premier League, which published the list of players being retained and released by clubs, despite Ibrahimovic being United’s top scorer last term.
The 35-year-old prolific forward agreed a one-year contract, with an option for second season on arrival last summer. However, the English side opted not to trigger the extension, due to the fact that the injury is likely to keep him out until 2018.
Ibra scored a team-high 28 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions last season. His last game for United was against Anderlecht, during which was carried off with ruptured cruciate ligaments.
Now the mystery remains, where shall Ibrahimovic continue his career? Will it be the MLS, the Chinese Super League or will he choose to stay in Europe? It is also understood that the Swede is not ruling out resigning with the Old Trafford giant once fit – but there are no plans at the moment.
The Italian fans have already got fired up about the possibility of him rejoining former side Milan. Some Milan fans have started the #IbrahimovicMilan hashtag, which rapidly went to be become a trend topic on Twitter. Some experts seem to be in favor of a possible move, one of which is former Napoli striker Stefan Schwoch. “If it were up to me, I would give Ibrahimovic to Milan. His family is very fond of the city. Ibra could be Milan’s secret surprise”, he told Sky Sport.
Even tough, Milan could get him for free on a bossman deal, it would still be a tough mission for the Rossoneri, as hey would have to deal with trouble-maker agent Mino Raiola, who is the reason behind the stall in Donnarumma’s contract renewal talks.
