Donnarumma To Become Future Milan Captain
In the match against Empoli, Gianluigi Donnarumma produced another couple of world-class saves that prevented the scoreline of becoming even more embarrassing for Milan. But while Milan is lucky to have finally found an almost unbeatable guardian on the goal-line for the long run, his agent is eager to jeopardize this perfect fairy tale story.
Gigio’s contract is up for renewal next summer and most of Europe’s top clubs would be prepared to offer €50 million for him and a salary of €7.5 million a year which could make him the second highest paid goalkeeper in Europe. However, after the Serie A game, Massimiliano Mirabelli told Sky Italia he is certain that Donnarumma wants to sign a new contract with Milan, but the hardest part will be convincing his agent Mino Raiola.
“All we needed to do was look Donnarumma in the eyes to see if he wants to stay at Milan, and we could see that he wants to,” Mirabelli said. I want him to write history with this club and we agree on everything with Montella. Renewing both of their contracts is important.”
Now according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan is ready to offer the young star a new 5-year contract worth €3.2 million per season plus bonuses, and hand him the captain armband in the future.
Raiola could play the waiting game with the Rossoneri, wanting the club’s new owners to prove him they really are ambitious by building a competitive squad for next season. The San Siro side intend to convince him by including a huge sell-on percentage if Donnarumma ever decides to leave the club. A meeting between the two parties is planned at the beginning of next week.
